Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Muchipara Police Station in Kolkata has arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Arko Jyoti Kundu, also known as "Chotka," on charges of rape of a minor girl. The arrest follows a formal complaint lodged by the victim's mother, bringing to light an alarming incident that allegedly occurred multiple times at the accused's residence in the B B Ganguly Street area.
The case, registered as Muchipara PS Case No. 83 on June 6, 2025, falls under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – specifically 64(1), 65(2), 75, and 351(3) – read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. These sections collectively address serious sexual offenses against children, including aggravated forms of penetrative sexual assault and acts intended to conceal the crime.
According to the complaint filed by the 28-year-old mother, her 9-year-old daughter was allegedly lured by the accused, who is their neighbor, with chocolates on several occasions. It is alleged that during these instances, the accused committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault upon the young victim. The mother further stated that "Chotka" threatened her daughter with dire consequences to ensure her silence and prevent her from disclosing the horrific acts.
The alleged incidents occurred on or before June 4, 2025, at the accused's residence. The immediate registration of the First Information Report (FIR) and subsequent investigation underscore the Kolkata Police's commitment to addressing crimes against children with urgency and sensitivity, especially those under the protective ambit of the POCSO Act.
